On Monday, November 13, ABC Daytime will premiere its new drama, "The City." At the culmination of "Loving's" exciting murder mystery, 12 key characters who have eluded the town's serial killer, will move from the fictional location of Corinth, PA, to the real downtown neighborhood of SoHo, New York, and will comprise the new cast of "The City." They will be joined by popular actress Morgan Fairchild.
Fairchild plays savvy Sydney Chase, the wealthy and glamorous owner of the loft building that serves as the focal point of business and residence for the transplanted Corinthians. Sydney, the toast of New York, knows everyone - including down and out musician Nick Rivers - who resurfaces in her life in an unusual way. Roscoe Born, who previously starred on the ABC Daytime dramas "Ryan's Hope" and "One Life to Live," joins the cast of "The City" as Nick Rivers. Additional cast members will be announced shortly.
One of the "The City's" biggest innovations will be a new style of production. The loft building provides a multi-level location for all the interior sets, such as Sydney's penthouse, a modeling agency, a free clinic, a bar, and other spaces. The loft has been matched to an actual exterior location, located on SoHo's Greene Street. This large set, unique to daytime, enables the use of camera work not previously possible, such as extensive use of hand-held cameras and steadi-cams. The fluidity of movement will help enhance the show's quicker-paced storytelling.
In addition, location shooting will be a big part of "The City," infusing the drama with a true urban feeling. "The City" will be shot using a mixture of film and tape, and music will be created to enhance the sound of the show. State-of-the-art editing techniques will be used to give "The City" a cutting edge look and feel.
At the heart of "The City" will be romance, with a touch of humor. "The City" will air Monday-Friday, 12:30 - 1:00 p.m., ET. Jean Dadario Burke is the executive producer, Barbara Esensten and James Harmon Brown are the head writers.
